About Mixed Media Lessons…
Mixed media is a broad term for any kind of visual art that incorporates one or more mediums. That could be paint and collage, marker and graphite, oil pastel and embroidery… Or any combination of any of these! It is a fun way to get your hands dirty and really play in the studio.
We’ll layer wet and dry materials like colored pencil, marker, fabric, oil pastel, watercolor, and more to let an image emerge through the process of exploration. Working in this way often yields very unique, individualized results. No two mixed media pieces look the same. Mixed media is also a great option for individuals who are interested in oil paint, but afraid of the potential health risks.

We will cover things like:
-How to layer different dry and wet materials to achieve textured effects
-Collage and cutout techniques
-Marker, pastel, charcoal, graphite
-Mixed media techniques for conceptual image development, using mixed media to test ideas and plan for larger projects
-Working with limited color palettes
Prerequisites:
-Just a sense of curiosity (and maybe a willingness to get messy)! No previous art experience needed.
What do you need to bring:
-I will provide materials for our first lesson, and we will discuss what materials you will need to purchase moving forward. This will vary according to each student’s goals and interests.
What is included:
-Materials for our first lesson together. This includes paper, pastel, marker, chalk, watercolor, and anything else we may get into.
-You’ll walk away from our first lesson with a small (max 8” x 10”) drawing from a reference image. If you are not comfortable jumping directly into images, we’ll make a sampler page to explore textures and qualities of different mediums.
-Custom materials list tailored to your interests
-One-on-one instruction in my working artist’s LIC studio space
-Focused discussion and critiques to help you discover your individual voice as an artist
